Col du Galibier is a mountain pass in the French Dauphine Alps. Until 1976, the only way to reach the summit of the pass (at 2,556m) was via a tunnel that was built in 1890. In 1976, the tunnel was closed for repairs - a new route over the summit was built, increasing the highest altitude of the pass to 2,642m, and the old tunnel reopened in 2002.
