Col du Tourmalet is a mountain pass in the French Pyrenees. It is considered one of the most iconic climbs in the Tour de France, being the most used mountain pass in the history of the event since it first featured in 1910. At the summit you can find the 3-meter tall “Le Géant du Tourmalet” statue of the cyclist Octave Lapize, who was the Tour de France stage winner in 1910. Every October the statue is removed from the mountain, and is replaced in June.
